I am Long T. Standing, an American Veteran who came to Ukraine and proudly served with the 253rd Battalion Arey on frontlines throughout 2024. During my time here I’ve had the privilege of meeting many Ukrainian children, who often expressed sentiments like, "English books are boring," and "I wish I knew how to help."
Inspired by these words, I created Strong As Us, a series designed to teach children how to find safe places, understand basic medical training suitable for their age, and develop emotional resilience through healing from traumatic experiences. It is a true honor to serve in Ukraine and to be a children’s author here. Your support through purchases or donations to Strong As Us helps provide, schools, libraries, coffee shops, and shelters for children with access to these valuable resources. Jodi Kuchynksa
I earned both my BA and MA in the United States, and have spent over 20 years teaching in public, private, and charter schools, working with students from kindergarten through 12th grade. In that time, I have also run my own tutoring company, helping learners of all ages unlock their potential.
In October 2022, I moved to Ukraine as a humanitarian aid volunteer and English teacher, driven by a deep belief that education and compassion can change lives even in the most challenging times. Today, I serve as the Head of the US Division of the Lisa Erokhin Foundation, where I continue to combine my passion for teaching with a commitment to service.
I have taught several of Long's books in my classrooms, watching how their lessons inspire resilience, empathy, and growth in students. My work is grounded in the belief that education is not just about academics, it is about nurturing the heart, expanding the mind, and empowering each person to become their best self no matter what age they are.
